these sites are well worth visiting...There are literally thousands of related
websites out there, and this list is not intended to be all inclusive. These are just a few of the sites I find

is Kathy Weiser’s excellent

a lot of unknown history of the American West, including roadtrip

fun, folksy site that takes you on many interesting ghost town adventures.

AZ
This is an EXCELLENT
Arizona ghost town site, and is the originator of The Ghost Town of the Month,
a feature that inspired me to do something similar back in 1998. Thanks for the inspiration guys!
This site
features the ghost towns of Cochise County, deep in the southeastern corner of
the Grand Canyon State.
CA
Includes a number of Death Valley and
Mojave Desert area California GTs. This

Explore the ghost towns of Death
Valley and the California Desert with Death Valley Jim. There is a lot of photography
and new information. Jim is also the
author of a couple brand new (2012) books on the region.

a good historical perspective on one of California’s premier ghost railroads,
visit John McCulloch’s website. The T
& T basically paralleled State Highway 127 south from Nevada, through Death
Valley Junction, Silver Lake and Baker, ending at Ludlow.

As they say on

This is a great site to get you into this state’s fascinating array of
ghost and near ghost towns.
A few high
mountain area ghost towns are featured on this site, which focuses on Colorado’s
14,000’ plus mountains.
IA
This site is the prime site for anyone interested in Iowa’s ghost
towns.
MT
Montana
Ghost Town Preservation Society
This
is NOT a ghost town site, but for an association for ghost town enthusiasts. I have been a member for well over 15 years
and truly enjoy their quarterly newsletters featuring various ghost towns in
Montana. Tell ‘em

This
site promoting Phillipsburg, MT also features a number of interesting ghost
towns in Granite County.
NV
This museum features the history of the
Pueblo Indian village along the Muddy River, near Overton, and the
archeological camp established in the 1930s to excavate and preserve the
history of that one-time Native American community.

Based
in Goffs Schoolhouse, this organization along with
their sister organization, The Friends of the Mojave Road, are dedicated to
preserving the history of California’s eastern Mojave Desert.

This
organization is seeking to preserve America’s vanishing roadside culture such
as road towns, motels, tourist “traps”, billboards, gas stations, etc.
Before there were trains and cars there
were trails and footpaths across the country.
The Mojave Road stretched from the Colorado River at Fort Mohave to Los
Angeles

interest to Ghost Towners.

Glenn Carson Enterprises, Inc.
Carson
Enterprises carries over 750 treasure and ghost town-related titles. It is based in Deming, NM. Glenn is a fellow columnist in Western & Eastern Treasures
Magazine.
This publishing company in Idaho
prints many ghost town books. A recent
check of their website doesn’t list a catalogue or other listing of currently
printed books.
However, I am leaving their link up here as the company is still active,
and is famous for publishing some of the best classic books on ghost towns from
the 1950s through the early 2000s.
Collectibles and misc books of interest to ghost towners
A
connoisseur’s guide to Tokens, medals, buttons, badges, ribbons, World's Fair,
political, Masonic/fraternal, Indian peace medals and slave tags. If you collect this type of exonumia, this a great site for you. Rich Hartzog also
sells hundreds of books to help you identify your finds. (Also listed under Treasure

Western & Eastern Treasures Magazine
“World’s
Leading How-to Magazine for Metal Detectorists Since
1966” Focus of
W & E T is hands-on treasure hunting for the active metal detectorist.
It
is also the home to my long-running (since Apr 1984) “Ghost Town USA”
monthly column wherein each month we explore America’s ghost towns.
This
monthly magazine is for those who love Arizona and traveling through the “Grand
Canyon State”.
International California Mining Journal
Formerly
known as the California Mining Journal, this magazine’s focus is
on current mining. It does contain a lot
of historical information on mines and ghost towns.
Published
since the mid-1960s, Lost Treasure calls itself “the Treasure
Hunter’s Magazine of Choice.” LT is
aimed at the active metal detectorist.
For
anything from historical ghost town information through current casino show
listings, everything related to the Silver State is fair game for this 6-times
a year magazine.
“The
Newspaper that Roams” was a quarterly (more-or-less)
folksy travel newspaper chronicling the travels of its editor. For visiting the map dots and unknown places
in the West, this one couldn’t be beat. No longer published., but still had an active website as of Jan 03,
2010.
