William Carmean Died Yesterday
--
    William M. Carmean, a retired bank employee, died yesterday in a local convalescent hospital.
    A resident of California since 1901, Mr. Carmean was a native of Missouri. He made his home here at 1608 Escalona Dr. He had been with Bank of America for 44 years.
    He is survived by his wife Ruth Watson Carmean of Santa Cruz; two daughters, Mildred Carmean of San Francisco and Vivian Ritter of Huntington Beach; a son, Dr. W. Watson Alberts of Berkeley; a brother, Chester Carmean of
Stockton; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Van Scoten and Mrs. Ollie Eggleston, both of Santa Cruz and five grandchildren.
    Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in the First Methodist church, 250 California St. Interment will be private. The family has requested contributions to the First Methodist Church Chapel Fund.
    Irwin M. Smith & Sons is in charge of arrangements.

    A celebration of the life of Audrey Cummings, who taught at Santa Cruz High School for 17 years, will be July 8th at her home.
    She died Monday at her Santa Cruz residence at the age of 81.
    A native of Santa Cruz, she was a descendant of the pioneer Roundtree and Cummings families.
    She was raised in the Fresno area, graduating from Clovis High School in 1929 and Fresno State College in 1933. Miss Cummings received her teaching credential from the University of California at Berkeley in 1934.
    She taught English for 15 years at Clovis High School and for 17 years at Santa Cruz High School, retiring about 1970.
    She also served as yearbook advisor and taught business classes at Santa Cruz High.
    Miss Cummings was a lifetime member of the California Teachers Association. After her retirement, Miss Cummings became interested in and spent countless hours researching her family's origin. She was a charter member of the
Santa Cruz Genealogical Society.
    A worldwide traveler, she visited numerous countries and made lifelong friends where[ever] she went.
    She is survived by a sister, Dorothy Salzmann of Santa Cruz; a brother, Jack Cummings of Clovis; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    A sister, Mary Poulsen of Sanger, died in 1993.
    Family and friends are invited to share in a celebration of Miss Cummings' life from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8 at her Santa Cruz home.
    Arrangements are under the direction of Norman's Family Chapel.
    Contributions are preferred to the Hospice Caring Project, 6851 Soquel Dr., Aptos, CA, 95003, or the Genealogical Society of Santa Cruz, P.O. Box 72, Santa Cruz, CA 95063.
