Ernest was born in Palo Alto, Calif., on 24 October 1922. He graduated in June 1940, taking a college prepatory course. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Faitos, live at 180 Beach St.
He entered the navy in November 1943 and was sent to Midshipman School at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. He graduated from there in January 1945. His first assignment was at Staten Island in the anti-submarine warfare
department. Overseas, he was in the Carribean Defense Area and in the South Pacific. He served as Executive Officer, navigator, and gunnery officer aboard the USS ATA-180, which was part of the salvage unit in the Crossroad Operation.
He returned to the staes in May 1946 and was discharged on 26 May 1946 as an Ensign.
