Woman Hangs Self To Avoid Hearing As To Her Sanity
--
Mrs. G. H. Hogue, Aged 48, Commits Suicide Monday Afternoon One-half Hour
Before Hearing
--
Prepares For Execution
--
Rafters in Garage Serve As Gallows for Demented Suicide -- Body Cut Down by
13-year-old Son.
--
Fear of a sanity hearing to have been held before E.E. Chalfant, probate judge, caused Mrs. Carrie E. Hogue, aged 48, to hang herself Monday afternoon from the fafters of a garage back of her home, 1710 West Idaho street,
according to her husband, Gilbert H. Hogue. The hearing was to have been held at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon. Mrs. Hougue committed suicide shortly after 3:30.
Mrs. Hogue had been mentally afflicted for the past several years, said her husband, and she know of her own condition. Charges of insanity were brought against her a few days ago and she was to have been examined before Judge
Chalfant by Dr. T. N. Braxtan, county physician, and another medical adviser Monday. Hearing of the examination she feared being sent to the state sanitarium at Blackfoot and prepared to end her life, it is thought.
....
Carefully Planned
....
She evidentally went to the garage and carefully prepared for her sel-execution. Standing upon a box she attached one end of a rope to her neck and the other end to the rafter. She then jumped from the box and was strangled. Her
false teeth were found carefull placed on another box in the garage.
The body was discovered 15 minutes later by her 12-year-old son, Carl. Running to the house he called Pauline E. Mock, Mrs. Hogue's nurse and housekeeper. The two then cut the rope and let the body to the floor, but all life had
gone.
....
No Inquest
....
There will be no inquest announced Coroner William McBratney, who was called immediately as was Dr. Braxtan.
Mrs. Hogue is survived by her husband, who is assistant engineer of the United States reclamation service; three sons, Shannon, 23, attending Willamette University at Salem, Ore., Wilbur and Carl, both of Boise, and a brother at
Moscov. She had lived near Boise for the past 21 years.
Funeral services will at the grave in Kuna cemetery, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The cortage will leave the Boise residence on Wednesday at 1 o'clock. Friends are requested not to send flowers.
