2 Brothers Killed in Auto Crash
--
Two well-known Santa Cruz brothers, Delbert J.W. and Maedle Clair Kreinbring were killed yesterday in an accident on the Santa Cruz-Watsonville freeway near Soquel.
Driver of another auto involved in the accident, John Milton Clark, 31, Santa Clara, is reported to be in "fairly good" condition at Community Hospital.
California Highway patrolmen said Delbert Kreinbring, 25, an IBM engineer at San Jose, was driving toward Watsonville in the outside lane when another auto apparently swerved in front of him from the inside lane. Kreinbring hit
the brakes, lost control, and the car went across the divider strip, striking the Clark vehicle, which was in the outside westbound lane, officers said. Both brothers were killed instantly, said Pat Kilpatric, chief sheriff coroner deputy. The deaths
bring the county total to four for the year.
Parents of the two are Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Kreinbring, 407 Alta Vista Dr. Kreinbring is a long-time teacher at Santa Cruz High School. His wife teaches at Live Oak school.
The young men, who are survived by three sisters, were outstanding students in school. A Sentinel clipping of 1949 praised Delbert Kreinbring, who was 13 at the time, for saving his home from extensive damage by fire by staying
in the flaming house to battle the fire until help arrived. In 1956 he was accepted to Tau Delta Phi, scholastic fraternity at San Jose State College for his scholastic honors.
His brother, Maedle, 22, was a senior dental student at College of Physicians & Surgeons in San Francisco. In 1953 he was the outstanding Sentinel carrier of the year and was also honored for outstanding courtesy.
He married the former Janet Hensley of Capitola in 1959. She is a nurse in San Francisco.
Highway Patrol officers are investigating the accident on the basis of witness descriptions. This morning they referred a partial report to District Attorney Nick Drobac. Drobac said, "The CHP is still investigating and talking
to witnesses. I've discussed the case with their department, but the investigation is not complete."
The investigation concerns the motoris in the car which assertedly changed lanes.
In addition to the parents, the brothers are survived by sisters Maralee, Margaret, and Holly Kreinbring, all of Santa Cruz and their grandfather, Rupert Kreinbring of Fergus Falls, Minn.
Private family services will be held in Ferguson's Mortuary, 212 Laurel St., tomorrow at 3 p.m. Friends are invited to attend the memorial services at First Presbyterian Church Wednesday at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas D. Ewing,
pastor officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Memorial Park.
