Obituary

--
Services will be Wednesday for Olivia Ann Hanson, who died Friday at Dominican Hospital after a long illness. She was 86.
A native of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Hanson met her husband Carl when he was studying at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. They wed in 1933 and came by bus to California on their honeymoon, settling in Modesto. They
moved to Santa Cruz in 1941.
Mrs. Hanson knitted caps, socks, and sweaters for American servicemen during World War II. She volunteered with the American Red Cross [for which she occasionally drove people to San Francisco for medical appointsments], and she
taught craft-making for the patients in the Fort Ord Psychiatric Unit. She volunteered at Dominican Santa Cruz Hospital, knitting items for sale at the gift shop. She was a member of Holy Cross Church for more than 50 years. She was close to her
son-in-law, Jerould Karges.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carl Hanson of Santa Cruz; a daughter, Nancy Karges of Ben Lomond; and two grandchildren, Jeffrey Karges and Jeri Ann Haase.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Norman's Family Chapel. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Santa Cruz Mission Chapel. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions are preferred to a favorite charity.
