Thomas W. Wescoat, 82, died on July 7, 2003. Born in Sacramento and raised in Stockton, he attended the College of the Pacific and after graduation began a career as a high-school teacher of English, French, and Latin. After
working in Selma and Ukiah, he settled in Santa Cruz in 1959, teaching first at Santa Cruz High and then at Soquel High until his retirement in 1981.
A life-long francophile, Mr. Wescoat spent part of his retirement years living and studying in Paris for extended periods. He was also an avid cellist, who adored playing in amateur chamber ensembles, in addition to performing
in various orchestras, including the Monterey Symphony.
Survivors include his wife, Everdyn Wescoat and two sons, John and Michael.
