Alvin Cummings, Native of Santa Cruz, Dies At His Home
--
Alvin Preston Cummings, a native of Santa Cruz, died at his home, 835 Walnut Ave., yesterday following a short illness. He was 82.
The son of a pioneer California family, Mr. Cummings had been a rancher in the San Joaquin Valley for more than 30 years. He also worked on the old narrow guage railway in Santa Cruz and for Southern Pacific.
In 1908 he married Rose Henderson of London, England, and in recent years had travelled extensively [illegible] following their 55[th] wedding anniversary and Mr. Cumming's 81[st] birthday in Hong Kong. There they were the
guests of honor at the Hilton Hotel.
Besides his wife, Rose Cummings, he leaves 12 direct survivors: three daughters, Mrs. Ernest Salzmann and Audrey Cummings, both of Santa Cruz, and Mrs. Edward Paulsen of Sanger; a son, John, of Clovis; six grandchildren and two
great grandchildren.
For almost 60 years, Mr. Cummings was a member of the Santa Cruz Elks Lodge.
Services will be held at Wessendorf and Thal Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. J. Bernard Corneliussen officating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park.
