Donald Metcalf Died On Sunday
--
Donald Clark Metcalf, a longtime local Safeway Stores worker and local resident since 1944, died Sunday after a short illness.
Metcalf was born in Lincoln, Neb., and [was] a member of the Garfield Park Christian Church of Santa Cruz. He worked for 23 years for Safeway.
He is survived by his wife Grace Metcalf of Santa Cruz; a son, Robert Metcalf of Santa Cruz; a brother, Earl Metcalf Jr. of Bend, Ore.; a grandmother, a nephew, and a niece.
Service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at White's Chapel, 138 Walnut Ave., with Pastor Gary H. Wells of Garfield Park Christian Church in charge. Interment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park.
Contributions to the Heart Fund are preferred.

No funeral services are scheduled for Helen Waterman Meyer, who died Wednesday at age 86.
A native of Moline, Illinois, Mrs. Meyer was the first city school nurse for Santa Cruz. She also worked for the Seaside Company as their nurse for 8 years.
She was a member of the California Nursing Association, National Retired Teachers Association, and president of the Peace Officers Assoication of Santa Barbara.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan Lynn Allen of Capitola, a grandson, Capt. Gerrit Allen U.S.A.F, and two grandchildren. White's & Wessendorf chapel, 138 Walnut Ave, is in charge of arrangements.
Ashes to be scattered at sea.
