DeVORE - In San Mateo, Feb. 23, 1951, Earl DeVore, dearly beloved husband of Clara DeVore, beloved father of Earl DeVore and Joan DeVore and Mrs. Ruth McKay. A member of Manchester Lodge 251 F. & A.M.

Ned D. Marksheffel, 61, a professor of education and director of reading at Oregon State University, died Monday evening at the hospital here of an apparent heart attack.
The son of Edward and Helen McDonald Marksheffel, he was born Sept. 21, 1910 at Caliente, Nev.
He recieved his BS degree in agriculture from Utah State University in 1933, elementary credential from San Francisco State College in 1936, and secondary credential from University of Southern California in 1940.
He was an elementary school teacher in California from 1936-42, when he entered the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star. At the time of his discharge in 1946 he was a first lieutenant.
He married Catterina Marie P. Andruss on Feb. 9, 1946 at Vancouver, B.C.
He owned and operated a landscape business in Santa Cruz, Calif. from 1946-48. He taught English and reading at Santa Cruz High School from 1948-55. He recieved his masters in education from Temple University in 1953. He was an
instructor in remedial reading at San Jose State College Extension from 1951-55.
He came to the Oregon State University Campus in 1955 and has been associated with the staff in education since that time. He recieved his Doctorate in Education from Stanford University in 1958.
Dr. Marksheffel has lectured and written widely in the field of reading instruction.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, International Reading Association, National Reading Conference, National Society for Study Education, Western College Reading Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Delta Kappa (president Gamma
Kappa field chapter 1960-61).
His wife "Kay" died on April 18, 1971.
He is survived by a daughter, Marhea K. Patti of Corvallis; his father, Edward, of Santa Maria, Calif.; two brothers, Donald A. of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Charles C. of Ketchikac, Alaska; three sisters, Mrs. Marjorie Brickey
of Santa Maria, Calif., Mrs. Dorothy Morris of St. Louis, MO, and Mrs. Marilyn Dugue of Hernit, Calif.; and a grandaughter.
Funeral services were held in the Good Samaratin Episcopal Church this afternoon with the Rev. Charles S. Neville officiating. Private funeral rites were at Mt. Crest Abbey in Salem.
The family suggests that memorials be given to the OSU foundation where a scholarship in memory of Dr. Marksheffel will be formed. These may be sent to the McHenry Funeral Home, 206 NW Fifth St.
