Well, here's where I started shooting pictures, the
intersection of highway 126 and road 95. Locals will be familiar with
the J.W. Green Mercantile store that is located here. You're looking at
what is left of the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad, later to be
become the Colorado & Southern. You can see the foundation of the bridge
that spanned the South Platte River. |

The road signs showing you the way. |

In the distance, the J.W. Greene Mercantile store. |
 |
There it is! The J.W. Green Mercantile store. |
 |
We're now leaving the store behind us, I had to turn
around to get this shot. |
 |
The little town of Ferndale, only accessible by crossing
the South Platte on this bridge. |
 |
We're now approaching what is known as "The Rolling
Stone." You'll see it in the next shot. Historic Photo can be found

Here's a closer view for you. |
 |
Above the Rolling Stone is the "Cathedral Spires." When
the train passed through here in the 1800s, people would admire the
Spires from the coach windows. Historic Photo can be found here:

We're now heading into the little town of Foxton. The
old post office can be seen coming up on the left. Historic photo can

We're now in the town of Dome Rock. |
 |
Here's the lunch hour rush in downtown Dome Rock. |
 |
There's Dome Rock itself. People would come up from
Denver on the train to picnic here. Historic photo can be found here:

This was as far as I went for today, this was once the
town of South Platte. This view is looking towards the east in what is
now Waterton Canyon. |
 |
My dog Cody decides to take a break. |
 |
The South Platte Hotel. People would spend the night
here and doing a little fishing. |
 |
Looking across the Platte River. The North and South
Forks of the South Platte River come together here. When you cross the
bridge, you're standing in Douglas County, on this side is Jefferson
County. |
 |
My dog Cody heading for the hotel. |
 |
The South Platte Hotel again, it's now boarded up. Sure
would like to see it restored one day. Historic Photo can be found
