Fifth Generation

20. Anna Barbara MEISNER (Casper MEISNER , Johann Daniel MEISNER , Casper , Thomas ) was born 1 on 7 Sep 1734 in Glauberg, Grafschaft Stolberg-Gedern. She was christened 2 on 8 Sep 1734 in Glauberg, Grafschaft Stolberg-Gedern. She died 3 in Dec 1775 in Centre, Lunenburg Co., NS. She was buried 4 on 22 Dec 1775 in Centre, Lunenburg Co., NS.

Notes indicate, this was his second marriage.

Anna married 1, 2, 3 Johann Matthias FIENER on 24 Sep 1753 in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg. Johann was born 4 in 1721 in Freisenheim, Baden-Durlach, Germany. He died 5, 6 on 31 Aug 1803 in Centre Range, Lunenburg Township, NS.

The Ortsippenbuch for Friesenheim, Baden does not record a Mathaus Foehner/Finer in that town. Foehner families are found in Friesenheim, Baden. However, there is a Friesenheim in teh Pfalz (Palatinate) near Mannheim and Ludwigshafen. It is possible that Mathaus Finer came from this community.

Mathaus (Matheus) Finer was a farmer who emigrated from Friesenheim in 1751. He, his wife Anna, and a child came to Nova Scotia on the Gale. He was indebted for two freights totaling fl. 142.15.0. His young child travelled free.

White at Halifax according to the 1752 'List of Settlers,' Matheus and his family resided among the "Swiss & Germans in the North Suburbs," an area which today is the neighbourhood just north of the Citadel and near the Little Dutch Church. He and his wife appear on the February-April 1753 victualling list. She apparently died in the late spring or summer of 1753.

Matheus Finner (with or without his first wife) went to Lunenburg with the other setlers when that town was founded in June 1753. The December 1753 'Return of Arms' indicates that he resided in Rudolf's Division while the July 1754 Return of Divisions indicates that he owned lot A-9 in Rudolf's Division. The return stated that he had a hut and garden on his lot. It also indicated that he was involved in the December 1753 insurrection as one of the agitators.

In the 1753 lotteries for Thirty-Acre Farm Lots, Matheus drew lot A-15 on the Centre Range. In 1754 despite his involvement in the troubles of December, 1753, he and Johannes Schmidt received jointly five sheep, one sow and one goat in the livestock distribution. He and Barbara appear on the Lunenburg victualling lists for June, 1755, February-May, 1756 and January-May 1757. In 1758 he served as a private in the militia and participated in the Indian patrols.

In 1760 he owned Centre Range lots A-15 and 16 according to the Registry of Thirty-Acre Farm Lots. The Registry of Town Lots in 1762 indicates that he owned Lot D-5 in Steinfort's Division. In the first drawing for 300-acre lots which was held on October 3, 1763, Matheus drew lot G-13 in the Second Division.

Mathias Fiehner was a member on Zion Lutheran Church. He contributed labour and money towards the construction of the church in 1770-71. He signed the membership roll on 1775 and appears in the account book from 1770 to 1785.

Matheus Finner is found on the 1770 census. His household consisted of eight people. He owned two oxen or bulls, three cows, three neat cattle and three swine. In 1769 his farm produced 30 bushels of rye, 40 bushels of barley and 10 bushels of oats. The total grain production of 80 bushels was more than sufficient to meet the household needs. In June 1784 according to the township grant, Mathias Fihner owned 390 acres of land.

Heinrich Ernst came to Nova Scotia from Wurttemberg in 1752 on the Pearl. He stated that he was a farmer and was indebted for fl. 75.12.0 for his passage to Halifax. He appears on the Halifax victualling lists of August-October 1752 and February-April 1753.

He went to Lunenburg in June, 1753 when the government moved the majority of Foreign Protestant settlers there to found that community. At Lunenburg, he shared a house with Matheus Gauer according to the July 1754 Return of Arms. He and Gauer shared ownership of Lot B-3 in Strasburger's Division. In 1753 he received his 30-acre farm lot at South Range D-11. He and Gauer were paired together for the 1754 livestock distribution. Because they were 'good singlemen,' they received jointly three sheep, one sow and one goat.

He and Dorothea appear on the victualling lists of June 1755, February-May 1756 and January-May 1757. In 1756, Heinrich participated in the expedition to grand Pre, NS to collect abandoned Acadian cattle. In 1758 he served as a private in the militia and did Indian patrol.

In 1760, the Registry of Thirty Acre Farm Lots recorded that he owned First Peninsula Lot A-2. He had exchanged his lot at South Range A for Friedrich Loth's lot at First Peninsula. He probably did this shortly after drawing South A-11 in 1753. The Registry of Town lots of 1760 records that Henry owned lots E-1, 2 and 13 in Moreau's Division, lots E-9 and F-5 in Creighton's Division, and lot B-3 Strasburger's Division. In the first drawing for 300-acre lots, Heinrich drew lot C-7 in the First Division.

Henry Ernst is found on the 1770 census. His household consisted of seven people. He owned two cows, two neat cattle and one swine. In 1769 his farm produced five bushels of barley and five bushels of oats. The total grain production of ten bushels insufficient to meet the household needs. Based on 18th-century requirements, the average person in Lunenburg required 3.5 bushels of grain annually. The Ernst family would have required a household production of about 25 bushels annually to survive. Henry Ernst was likely engaged in other work which would bring in income to meet the difference for household consumption.

On 30 June, 1784 when province formally presented Lunenburg with a township grant, Heinrich owned 330 acres of land.

They had the following children:

57 F i Maria "Mary" Gertrude ERNST was born 1, 2 in Feb 1757 in First Peninsula, Lunenburg, NS. She was christened 3, 4 on 15 Feb 1757 in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia (SJAL).

Johannes Meisner participated in the lottery for 300-acre lots. In the second drawing on 7 November, 1763, he drew Lot 12 in the South Division. By June, 1784 when Lunenburg received its township grant, Johannes owned 600 acres.

John Meisner is found on the 1770 census. His household consisted of four people. He owned two cows, two neat cattle and one swine. In 1769 his farm produced 10 bushels of rye, two bushels of peas, and 15 bushels of barley. The total grain production of 25 bushels was more than sufficient to meet the household needs of 3.5 to 4 bushels per capita.

Johannes was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. In 1770-71 he contributed labour and money for the construction of the church. He signed the church's membership roll in 1775 and appears in their account books from 1772 to 1785.

Johannes Meisinger wrote his will on 19 February 1807. He bequeathed his 300-acre lot at South Division No. 6 and half of 300-acre lot at Third Division F-5 to his sons Conrad and Theodore. To his sons Casper and Henry, he bequeathed 100 acres of Third Division lot F-5 and a 700-acre lot in New Dublin. His daughter, Elizabeth, wife of Ulrich Sporry, received 300 acres in New Dublin, 50 acres of lot F-5 in the Third Division, one bed, one chest and one cow. The remainder of the estate was to be divided among the five children. Matthias and Casper Ernst were the executors. The will was proved on 6 July 1807 (PANS, RG 48, Reel 19832, Lunenburg Will Book, Vol. 1, no 118.).

Johannes married 1, 2 Anna Maria Barbara NASS (Nau) daughter of Johann Conrad NASS (Nau) and Anna Margaretha on 25 Oct 1763 in St. John's Anglican Church, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Anna was born 3 in 1746 in Pfalz. She died 4, 5 on 21 Jul 1805 in Lunenburg Township, NS (ZLL).

Casper Meisner bought lot 19 at South Range E in May 1781 (Lunenburg, Registry of Deeds, Book 2, no. 524). He bought the thirty-acre farm lot for ₤310 from Gottlieb Happold. Later records indicate that Casper Meisner and his family resided at The Ovens, which would be consistent with ownership of the lot at South Range E-19. Earlier in May 1776, he had bought a three hundred-acre lot at Fourth Division lot A-1. He paid ₤30 for this lot (Book 2, no. 61). It is unlikely that he resided on this lot which was located behind the 30-acre lots at Clearland and at the end of the Northwest Range.
