Census1860: __ ___ 1860 Elizabethtown, Whitewater Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio; (Evd 764) age 40 blacksmith $1000 land.

Military: 1861-1865 Company D, 5th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. Have entire military file (Evd 1009) in which an A.B.Wamsley & S.V.Hayes signed as witnesses. Other names were Wm Jessup and Leah H Guard. Recap of Samuel Wamsley's 3 1/2 years of service.
Entered service 28 Aug 1861.
Promoted from 2nd Lt. to 1st Lt. 1 Nov 1861.
Promoted from 1st Lt. to Captain 25 Feb 1863.
Mustered out on 31 Jan 1865 at Savannah GA on expiration of term of service.

Census1880: __ ___ 1880 Cleves, Miami Township, Hamilton Co., Ohio; (Evd 907) age 59 blacksmith.

Residence: 08 Apr 1884 Roodhouse, Greene Co., Illinois; He was in Roodhouse, Greene, Illinois 8 Apr 1884 (he signed stmt then), for 3-4 years per Argos in pension Sep 1892. (Argos was also Adm when daughter Anna died.) On 19 Mar 1998 I sent letter to Hist/Gen Soc to ask why he might have been there. I got back a letter saying "The only Wamsley we have on James Knox Wamsley, I am sending it on to you." What they sent is a "verdict of jury" in the matter of the inquisition on the body of James Knox Wamsley deceased, held at Carrolton on 21 Mar 1885 (verdict was an embolism, so natural causes). Could James be his father's brother?

Death: 24 Feb 1903 Cleves, Hamilton Co., Ohio; Not in Hamilton Co Death Records (SLC 355118).

Burial: __ ___ ____ Berea aka Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves, Hamilton Co., Ohio; Hamilton Co "Record of Registration of War Veterans Graves" (Evd 744) has him listed, and there is a marker on his grave.

Death: 09 Apr 1910 Possibly, Hamilton Co, Ohio; Her death date is from pension 'drop' record. Send for death record as film only goes to 1908.
