MY MOST DISTANT ANCESTOR BORN OUT OF THE USA ON MY PATERNAL LINE is Robert McMillan. He was born about 30 March 1781 in Carnmoney,Antrim, Ireland. He was the son of Hugh McMillan of Antrim, Ireland. In 1841, Robert McMillan and his family were listed on the 1841 Scotland Census Record in the Civil Parish of Sorbie, County of Wigtownshire, and Address of Gartliestown Cow Gate.His wife was Mary- born 1811 in Ireland. He moved here to Scotland with his wife and had five children-all born in Scotland. His third child, Matthew McMillan, is my most distant first direct ancestor on my paternal line who came to America

He had blue eyes and was 5 feet 8 inches tall; 27 Oct 1850 US Federal Census lists a M. McMullen with a birthplace as Scotland about 1823 and living in New York City, Ward 7, District 1, New York- page 216, roll-M 4320540; Matthew McMillen married 5 September 1851 to Ann Hall of NY in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County, New York in a ceremony performed by Rev. H.G. Ludlow at the First Presbyterian Church at 100 Cannon Street in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess, NY 12601; The marriage was witnessed by Abraham McMillen and David McCoull; The June 1, 1860 US Federal Census lists Matthew Mcmillen living in St. Paul, Ramsey, MN and DOB in Scotland and his wife as Ann, born in NY; Their son is Matthew B. Mcmillen, my first US Born Ancestor and born 22 August 1853 in Marlboro, Ulster County, New York and married 1878 to Margaret Quinn in MN.Matthew McMillan of Scotland purchased a homestead in Henderson, Carver County, MN on 15 Jan 1863; Fought in the US Civil War- Volunteer Enlistment on Feb.17, 1865 in St. Paul, MN and mustered in for one year on 17 Feb 1865; Stationed at Fort Snelling, MN; Served as Matthew McMillan and received Distinguished Service on the Union Side in Hatch's Independent Battalion, MN Cavalry in Company F; Discharged 8 Feb 1866; Listed 12 June 1880 US Federal Census listed as Mathew Mcmillen with his wife, Ann Mcmillen, living in Hancock, Carver, MN; Died 18 Dec 1896 in Hancock, Carver County, MN; Name on Death Certificate # 353 lists him as Mathew McMillan;His funeral took place Dec. 20, 1896 at St. John's Church,Assumption Parish in Belle Plaine, MN 56011;
