Note: Mr. George Dean Long, 87, of Winston-Salem died Friday afternoon, June 3,
2005, at his home. He was born April 30, 1918, in Yadkin County to R. Blum
and Verdie L. Long. Mr. Long was a retired optician from N.C. Baptist
Hospital and enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and relatives as long
as his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Key
Long, who he married in April 1941. Also preceding him in death were his
stepmother, Anna Vaden Long; and three brothers, Clifton R. Long, L.M.
"Mack" Long and Blum A. "Bookie" Long. Surviving are a sister, Marie L.
Reavis of Yadkinville; his brothers' wives, Zelma S. Long of Winston-Salem
and Kattie Long Matthews of the Longtown community; and numerous nieces and
nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, June 6, at
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Ray Hamilton officiating.
Burial will follow in Longtown Cemetery in Yadkin County. The family will
receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home. The family
sends a special thank you to the Outreach Home Services for the special love
and care they gave both George and his wife over the past three and a half
years.
