Per Frances Deveaux, there was a book written by James Ralph Scales, "A Walk Through The Twentieth Century" that this Bettie Denney was mentioned in, her vital info was obtained from this book. A Debbie Covington, granddaughter of John Baker/Bettie Denney has a copy of the book. James Ralph Scales lives in Lewisville, NC

Her grandson, Jackie Clay Lane owns the family bible, have not gathered data as to who this grandson belongs to

Hello Richard! My name is Kenneth Doyle Baker and I'm a descendant of
William Baker Family of the Union Hill district of Yadkin County North
Carolina. Your Bettie Jane Denney and my Bettie Jean Denny are the same
people. This is where our trees will come together. I have not researched
the Denney/Denny families so I don't know that my information is accurate. I
show Bettie as Bettie Jean Denny born December 23 1880 the daughter of
Acheles Martin Denny and Elvira Spencer. Please correct me if this
information is incorrect, I would like to update my files. I have a copy of
James Ralph (Joe) Scales's book "A Walk Through The Twentieth Century". This
book is where I got my information about Bettie. I have a lot of documented
information about the descendants of John Albert Absalom Baker and Bettie

Baker, John Albert Absalom (b. 1 JUN 1876, d. 24 MAY 1964)

time and outlines the family with his second wife

SANFORD - Mr. Frank Albert Baker, 81, died Tuesday
at his home. The funeral service will be conducted
at 7 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Memorial Chapel by
the Rev. Misty Mowrey. Burial will be at 11 a.m.
Friday at Rocky Fork Christian Church Cemetery.
Born in Stokes County, he was a son of the late
John A. Baker and Augusta Mae Wall Baker. Mr.
Baker was an Army veteran of World War II, serving
in Company A, Engineer Aviation Battalion, and
seeing action in Normandy, Northern France,
Rhineland and Central Europe. He retired in 1996
from farming and as a machinist at Roberts Co. and
Sacco Lowell. Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a
sister, Hester Baker Smith; two half sisters,
Chloe M. Baker and Tennie Baker Lane; a brother,
Jesse Odell Baker; and three half brothers, Paul
Baker, John W. Baker and Golden M. Baker. Mr.
Baker is survived by his wife, Gertrude Jones
Baker; three sisters, Frances Baker Hancock, Ola
Mae Baker Blakley and Peggy Baker Coffer, all of
Sanford; a brother, Ray E. Baker Sr., of Wilson; a
half brother, Floyd C. Baker, of Pinnacle; and
numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made
to Rocky Fork Christian Church, 4246 Rocky Fork
Church Road, Sanford, NC 27330. The family will
receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at
Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home in Sanford.

Denney, William Martin (b. 8 MAY 1875, d. 8 JAN 1914)

Note: William and his wife Mary are buried at the Whitakers Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery, Pilot Mountain, Surry County, NC. Tombstone dates agree with my record dates.

Per Frances Deveaux, William's sons never had any children. Frances is a granddaughter of William and my source for much of the data on this family.

Frances tells me that her grandmother (Mary Webb) used to tell stories about raising 6 children by herself. She also told of crossing the Yadkin River with horses and wagons as there were no bridges. Mary moved back to Yadkin County, NC (her home place) after William died , sometime later, she moved to Winston-Salem and operated a boarding house there. It was here that Frances' mother Irene met her father Clint.
