Note: MOUNT AIRY - Cheyanne Patricia Cain, 8, and Abbagail Marie Cain, 4, of 187 Cedar Lake Trail, Mount Airy, entered into the loving hands of God on Wednesday evening, Nov. 21, 2007. Cheyanne was born March 27, 1999, and Abbagail was born Feb. 24, 2003, in Forsyth County to Michael Wayne and Melinda Gail Hayes Cain. Cheyanne was a third-grade student at Cedar Ridge Elementary School in Lowgap. Although Abbagail was not school age, she spent her days with her maternal grandparents while her mommy and daddy worked.
They were inseparable most of the time and often were referred to as
precious angels. They enjoyed playing each day as well as spending time with their family and friends. Cheyanne and Abbagail were always eager to attend Pine Ridge Baptist Church on Sunday mornings, and they were truly "wild" about Sunday school. In addition to their parents, the girls are survived by their maternal grandparents, David and Judy Key Hayes of Siloam; paternal grandparents, Roy and Barbara O'Neal Cain of Mount Airy; paternal great-grandmother, Dicie Ring O'Neal of Mount Airy; two aunts, Susan Hayes France of Mount Airy and Mary Cain Branch of Dobson; and a special cousin, Mason Ford McMillian. Cheyanne and Abbagail were preceded in death by their
maternal great-grandparents, Barley and Mattie Key and Paul and Ethel Hayes; and paternal great-grandparents, Chester O'Neal and Eli and Sue Cain. A service of remembrance will be held Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Pine Ridge Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Johnny Johnson, the Rev. Randy Edwards and the Rev. Bill Spurlin. Burial will follow in the Pine Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Roy and Barbara Cain, 183 Wayne Street, Mount Airy. God be with you till we meet again! By His counsels guide, uphold you, with His sheep securely fold you; God be with you till we meet again! Our Father, please keep our babies in your loving arms until we meet at Jesus'
feet! Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.

ROUND PEAK - Inseparable.
That's the word that most often comes to mind to describe the two sisters who did practically everything together. Wherever 8-year-old Cheyanne Patricia Cain went, 4-year-old Abbagail Marie Cain was sure to follow. Friends and family said their love for one another was unconditional.
And that love, one relative said, extended beyond the traditional family unit. Last Sunday after church, the two sisters went to Kmart. Although they could have settled on buying something for themselves, both sisters wanted to help some of their less fortunate childhood friends.
“Abbagail said ‘Nanny, we went to Kmart and we bought presents for little boys and girls who don't have nothing,'” Barbara O'Neal Cain, the girls' grandmother, recalled Friday night. “Abbagail was so thrilled. She said ‘I got to help pick things out.' She was smiling ear to ear.”
On Sunday afternoon, the two sisters who shopped together, played together, and were “wild” about going to Pine Ridge Baptist Church together, will be buried together. Barbara Cain said it's a fitting tribute to two smiling, loving girls who brought joy to everyone they touched. Her voice choked with emotion when she recalled what a wonderful pair they were and how well-known they had become in this community during their short lives.
“They were always holding hands,” Cain said. “That's why we thought she should be together now.”
Tragically, the two girls wandered off early Wednesday night from their home in this small community at 187 Cedar Lake Trail. Their mother, Melinda Cain, called 911 shortly before 5:30 p.m. to report the girls' disappearance. She went door-to-door, asking people to search for the two girls.
Abbagail and Cheyanne were found in a pond at the end of the road. Off-duty paramedics performed CPR, later taking them to Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy. The girls were pronounced dead at 7:39 p.m., authorities said.
Sheriff Graham Atkinson said that he and his officers found nothing unusual.
“It just looks like an accidental drowning,” he said.
Cheyanne and Abbagail's parents, Michael Wayne and Melinda Gail Hayes Cain, are staying with relatives. They want to avoid the media and are not ready to return to their home, relatives said.
Cheyanne was a third-grade student at Cedar Ridge Elementary School. Four-year-old Abbagail was too young to attend. But that didn't stop her from trying to follow in her older sister's footsteps every day.
“Abbagail would cry when she couldn't go to school with her sister,” Barbara Cain said.
Sandra Cain, the girls' great-aunt, said Friday night that Cheyanne and Abbagail had a “wonderful love for other children.”
“They were just really unique girls,” Cain said. “They had a lot of love and joy for everybody . . . When they went Christmas shopping, both of them were so tickled they had do something and wanted others to have something for Christmas.”
In a letter to Santa Claus in last year's The Mount Airy News, Cheyanne told Santa that she had “tried to be good.” She asked for a Baby Alive doll. “I will be good Santa,” the letter concludes.
The family will receive friends 7 p.m. tonight at Moody Funeral Home and also at the home of the girls' grandparents, Roy and Barbara Cain, at 183 Wayne St. Sunday's service will be at 2 p.m. at Pine Ridge Baptist Church.
Barbara Cain said that the family is struggling to raise money for a tombstone for the two girls. For those interested in making a donation, contact Cain at 789-9364.
