Denney, Reid Leonard (b. 7 MAY 1915, d. 27 DEC 1978)

Note: Reid may have had a son "REID LEONARD DENNEY,JR" since he had SR in his name! I am attaching a Junior to this family based upon this fact.

Reid died of prostrate cancer at the Forsyth Memorial Hospital, Winston-Salem, NC. He is buried at the Ararat-Cedar Hill Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Pilot Mountain, NC, there is a stone there for wife Ruth with no death date, may still be alive in 1999.

His SSN was 243-09-5637.

His wife was last known residing at Morristown, TN in 2003

Reid Leonard Denny
Reid tried farming for several years but then went to work for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company in Winston Salem. He bought one of Leonard Denny’s farms after his father stopped farming. This farm was located at the foot of Pilot Mountain and borders on the State Park there. Reid mixed chemicals together at RJ which made up the glue used in cigarettes. He eventually retired from RJ after many years of working there. Reid and his wife, Ruth, seemed to live a very nice life. Both of their children eventually built homes on the Pilot Mountain farm property.

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. - Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Collins
Denny of Heritage Center Nursing Care in
Morristown passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, of
natural causes. She was born Sept. 12, 1914, in
Stokes County to the late Darian and Lucy Ann
Lawson Collins. Having formerly lived most of her
life in Pilot Mountain, N.C., Mrs. Denny was known
by many loved ones as the Pilot Mountain school
dietitian. After serving 30 years as an active
member of First Presbyterian Church of Pilot
Mountain, she moved to Tennessee and became a
member of First Presbyterian Church of Morristown.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Reid
Leonard Denny Jr. and wife Tammy of Pilot
Mountain, N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha
Ann Fulk and husband Sam of Morristown; grandsons
Jeff Denny and wife Ramona of Wake Forest, N.C.,
Andy Collins of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Joe Reid
Denny of Pilot Mountain, N.C., Bo Fulk of
Knoxville, Tenn., and Denny Fulk of Knoxville,
Tenn.; granddaughters Katie Denny of Pilot
Mountain, N.C., Annie Fulk of Knoxville, Tenn.,
and Martie Fulk of Knoxville, Tenn.;
great-grandsons Jack Denny of Wake Forest, N.C.,
and Brooks Denny of Wake Forest, N.C.; and
numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Denny was preceded in death by her
husband, Reid Leonard Denny Sr.; a grandson,
Cameron Collins Denny; a brother; and seven
sisters. A graveside service will be held at 1
p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Cedar Hill Primitive
Baptist Church Cemetery, Power Dam Road, Pilot
Mountain (off of Hwy 268 W.) with Dr. Ned
Hollandsworth, Mr. Edsel Gordon and Dr. Leighton
Culler officiating. The family will receive
friends after the service at the First
Presbyterian Church. The body will remain at
Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain until
the time of the service. Memorials may be made to
First Presbyterian Church, 314 E. Main St., Pilot
Mountain, NC 27041; First Presbyterian Church, 600
W. Main St., Morristown, TN 37814; or the American
Cancer Society, Attention Web, P.O. Box 102454,
Atlanta, GA 30368-2454. The Denny family is being
served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot
Mountain.
