Deskins, Nathaniel (b. 1 JUN 1828, d. 6 MAY 1910)
Note: There is some controversy over who Nathaniel married & when.
Deanna Parker insists that he married only once that being to Sarah Phillips on May 10, 1849 & that all children I list under two wives are actually all his & Sarah Phillips children.
In researching the data on the Internet (Rootsweb & Church of Latter Day Saints), one can find quite a mixture on this family, some show Nathaniel married both women & some show he married only once. In addition, there are some records on the Internet that show him as Nathaniel Jackson Deskins. There is one instance where it shows that his brother Jackson married Emily King. It appears that we need to find out more about this Emily King!
I am inclined to leave my records as they are pending further findings, perhaps if I leave these notes here, there may be more people step up to reflect what info they know or think is correct to resolve this, be forewarned, my data may not be correct on this matter
Feb 2007: I have detached Emily King as a spouse to Nathaniel (marriage Sep 21, 1854) and attached all children listed under Nathaniel & Emily to Nathanie & Sarah. Suspect she actually married a Jackson Deskins
Carrie Garner shows a James H. Deskins, a James Monteville Deskins, & a Monteville Deskins as children for this family. I would doubt there would be two James, thus not listing the James Montiville as I think they are the same.

Note: Some reports have Jackson having children yet with his third wife Katherine after they married in 1895. There are up to six children shown with birth dates starting at 1896 into the early 1900s. This would have him fathering children almost up to 70 years of age, not impossible but I will leave them out of these records for the present. One was a Charlie born 1896, another was a Dixie born 1905 and several more unnamed with no data. The latter children may be true as he supposedly had 18 children.
His wife Caroline died in childbirth of their first child, info on child unknown
Jackson was a farmer and was elected to be a County Judge in 1883

Note: The DOB for Nathan, his wife Catherine and their children is based upon their age during the 1850 census.
The family was living in Scioto County, Ohio two houses away from Nathan's father (HH# 38) during the 1850 census and were shown as Nathan age 27, born VA, a farmer with $300 of real estate, wife Catherine age 21, born PA, Wm Holt age 4 and M.J. (FEM) Holt age 2, both born in Ohio. The M.J. probably stands for Mary Jane but as of now no evidence as to what her name was.
The 1870 Meigs Township, Adams County, Ohio census finds them as Catherine age 48 head of the household, Mary J. age 22, John age 18, Sarah E. age 10, and America age 6. Catherine had $700 of Real Estate and $300 in personal property
The 1880 Adams County, Ohio census finds them as Catherine age 57, Mary J. age 30, and America age 16. She was living close by John Holt and his family which I presume is her son John.
The 1900 Meigs Township, Adams County, Ohio census finds the family as Catherine age 77 (b. Jan 1823 PA), and Mary (b. Nov 1848 Ohio). There was a Mary J. Jones age 13 (b. Apr 1887 Ohio) enumerated with them as a granddaughter, this appears to indicate that one of Catherine's daughters married a Jones but I have no record of this at the present. Catherine was a mother of 6 with 4 living.
The 1910 Adams County, Ohio Census finds the family as Katherine age 89 and daughter Mary J. age 61. During this census, she was shown as a mother of 6 with 3 living.
There was a Nathan Holt age 41 that entered into Co. G, 182nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry on Sep 23, 1864 and was killed at Nashville, TN Feb 12, 1865. The age fits and indications are that they are the same Nathan. The Meigs Township, Adams County, Ohio cemeteries records verify that it is this Nathan.

Also enumerated with them was Nancy Newman age 66 Hiram's mother and a Zachariah Newman age 22, possibly Hiram's brother. All people born in Ohio.
