Key, Herbert Allen (b. 28 JUN 1898, d. 14 FEB 1975)

Note: Herbert died of a heart attack & was laid to rest on Feb 16, 1975 at the Macedonia Cemetery, Wilkes County, NC

I had only two children for this family, daughters Maggie & Thelma. James Wright provided me with an obituary for a Georgia Key Long which appears to tie her and several siblings to Herbert. What appears to happen here is that Herbert & Kathryn moved to Wilkes County, NC after birth & death of daughters Maggie and Thelma, thus leaving no trails to Surry County researchers of further children being born. I am posting people in the obituary as siblings pending further investigation to prove/disprove this! KEEP IN MIND, THIS IS NOT PROVEN!

Mrs. Georgia Key Long, 82, of Winston-Salem died
Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at her home. She was born
April 6, 1921, in Wilkes County to Herbert and
Kathryn Key. Mrs. Long was retired from Western
Electric with 30 years of service. She was a
member of Konnoak Baptist Church. She was preceded
in death by three brothers, Hassel, Rex and Max
Key; and two sisters, Elizabeth Wagoner and Ruth
Beeson. Surviving are her husband, George D. Long,
of the home; two brothers, Cecil Key of Elkin and
Larry Key of Statesville; and two sisters, Shelba
Lawson of Elkin and Kay Jolly of Roaring River.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek
Chapel with Dr. Gary McCollough and Dr. Ray
Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in
Longtown Cemetery in Yadkinville. The family will
receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior
to the service. The family wants to express
special thanks to Outreach Home Service for their
special love and care.

Denney, Garland Bird (b. 11 NOV 1903, d. 25 JAN 1967)

Garland loved to have fun and tease his nephews and nieces. He made "tommy-walkers" (name used for stilts) that were so tall you had to be on the roof on top of a house in order to get on them. He could skillfully walk in them and walk all over the farm. He was very strong and could walk around on his hands for long periods of time. He was able to go up and down stairs, out in the yard, and walk around outside on his hands. As a boy he once rode a bicycle 15 miles to play with a cousin and suffered a massive asthma attack for the first time. He had asthma for the rest of his life, and at times, struggled with it. He was always a farmer and worked the farm of Leonard Denny’s located at the foot of Pilot Mountain. He lost his sweet wife Lilly and their child during childbirth. He never had any more children.

Garland was laid to rest on Jan 27, 1967 at the Pilot Mountain Cemetery, Surry County, NC

Lawson, Lillie (b. BET 1906 AND 1907, d. 18 MAR 1930)

Note: According to the 1910 and 1920 census', Lillie was Lillie S. Lawson born abt 1906-1907. According to the North Carolina State Archives, North Carolina Deaths, 1908-1967, Lillie was born in 1908 and died at the age of 22 on March 18, 1930, in Forsyth County, NC. Lillie's home was in Yadkin, Stokes County, NC, during the 1910 and 1920 Census' Garland was living with Lillie's parents in Apr 1930 in Yadkin, Stokes County, NC. Lillie's father was dead by Apr 1930 also.
I don't believe Garland and Lillie had any children. There were no other
Dennys' mentioned with Garland in the '30 census.
