Denney, Foye Dodson (b. 15 SEP 1919, d. 20 AUG 2004)

CLARKESVILLE, Ga. - Foye Denny Burge, 84, of
Clarkesville died Friday, Aug. 20, 2004, at
Habersham County Medical Center following a brief
illness. Born in Surry County, N.C., on Sept. 15,
1919, she was the daughter of the late John Willis
and Betty Stamey Denny. She was a graduate of
Pilot Mountain High School. She was a homemaker
and a member of Pinnacle View Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar
Nathaniel Burge and a daughter, Linda Burge.
Surviving are her daughters, Amy Burge Skvarka of
Clarkesville, Ga., and Ann Burge Vanderplough of
Lawrenceville, Ga.; a brother, J.W. Denny Jr. of
Pinnacle, N.C.; her sisters, Nell D. McKinney of
Pinnacle, N.C., and Pansy D. Broughton of Pilot
Mountain, N.C.; and a grandson, Nathaniel Dodson
Vanderplough. A graveside service will be held at
11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Pinnacle View Baptist
Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Chamblin
officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to the Pinnacle View Baptist Church Cemetery
Fund. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain
is in charge of the Burge arrangements.

Note: Her husband Glenn was in the U. S. Army during WW II. He is buried at the Pinnacle View Baptist Church Cemetery, Surry County, NC.

I met Nell on my trip to Surry County in 1999. She lives on the property that has the old Denny school house on it and it is well taken care of.

Note: Pansy has spent numerous years researching and documenting the Dennys and associated families of Surry County, NC. She provided me a wealth of material to help enhance my database on the Surry County families and her contribution is highly appreciated.

Pansy is on the Internet and we correspond in that manner. I talked with her on the telephone also and met her sister Nell on my trip to Surry County in 1999.

Her second husband John made a career in the U. S. Air Force.

Pansy and her second husband John adopted their son Jonathon.

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. William Elmer "Bill" Inman, 85, of 121 Barrington Drive, Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 18, 2009, at his home. Mr. Inman was born February 13, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Harry and Ella Jane Shelton Inman. Bill retired from Quality Mills and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Roxie Juanita Tharpe Inman of the home; a sister-in-law, Beulah Midkiff Inman of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews, Marsha and Ottis Lowe of Mount Airy, Fred and Beverly Cooke of Wilkesboro, and Martha and Don Austin of High Point; several great nieces and nephews; and many friends and special neighbors. In addition to his parents, Mr. Inman was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Inman Cooke; and a brother, Richard Jay Inman. The Funeral Service will be held Monday, April 20, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rusty Reed officiating. Entombment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bannertown Baptist Church, 1834 Westfield Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Nixon, Sally Louvenia (b. BET 27 AUG 1923 AND 1924, d. 1 NOV 1948)
Note: Sally died of a gunshot wound near the heart. Her husband Lex was accused of the shooting but he claimed she shot herself. After hearing the State's evidence, the Judge directed a verdict of not guilty for Lex.

Doris Denny Cockerham, 82, of Galax, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, at her home.

She was the widow of Stuart Cockerham.

She was born Jan. 25, 1925, in Galax to Alton and Lelia Wilson Denny.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanie and J.D. Brewer of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tammy and John Robinson of Galax; two sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Wilma Cockerham of Elkin, N.C., and Dennis and Gayle Cockerham of Lynchburg; two sisters, Opal Kirby of Ruther Glen and Vivian Kenny of Galax; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held Thursday at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home with burial in the Meadow Creek Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The Revs. James Cowley and Michael Cockerham will officiate.
