An elderly Aberdeen woman died at the hospital Sunday following an
automobile accident near the Pinehurst traffic circle.
Edith Denny Luther, 89, died at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital after
being involved in an accident on U.S. 15-501.
Luther had been driving a 2003 Honda CRV that had just passed through the
traffic circle. Her vehicle was headed south toward Aberdeen when her car
made an abrupt left turn, crossed the median into the northbound lane and
struck a 2000 Isuzu Trooper head on, according to Pinehurst Police Capt.
Floyd Thomas.
The Trooper was driven by Ashley Cunningham, 19, of Pinehurst. Three people
were in the vehicle: Loretha Cunningham, 42; Trent Freeman, 42; and Lytel
Cunningham, 15.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported to the hospital. Police did
not know the cause of Luther's death.
"She was alive and coherent at the scene," Thomas said.
