John W. Armiger as young man John W. Armiger as older man

John W. Armiger was born in 1818, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Hill Armiger. He married Henrietta Neff in 1842 and had five children, one of whom, Benjamin was the founder of Armiger Photography Gallery in Baltimore City. After the death of his first wife, John W. married Sarah Anne Armiger in 1856 and fathered three more children.

The photos displayed above include a copy of an early "cased image" of John W. Armiger as a young man. This was probably an ambrotype. The image on the right is of John as an elderly man. This cabinet card was made in his son's studio likely about 1900 or 1901.

Below is a photograph of Sarah Ann Armiger, the second wife of John W. She was born about 1830 to Benjamin Armiger  and Sarah Hutton. She died in 1913. This photo was submitted by Carolyn Josselyn but belongs to her sister Michelle Scott

Sarah Ann Armiger

Carolyn Josselyn reports that this photograph of her ancestor
led to a "hit" off the internet when her fourth cousin contacted her from
Arizona. Her cousin is the great great granddaughter of Sarah
Ann Hutton Armiger's sister.
