Eldad Kingsley:

Notes:

Eldad and Mehitable lived in Rehoboth, MA after their marriage. They belonged to the First Baptist Church of MA in Rehoboth, however, this church was offensive to the Congregational Church and the members were fined and advised to remove to a place where they would not prejudice' any existing sect. In 1667 these Baptists incorporated a town by the name of Swansea. Eldad was among those who signed the agreement to become inhabitants of Swansea.
When Swansea became a town, Capt. Willett was told that purchasing lands in Swansea was permitted as long as "so as he do not too much straiten the Indians." But the land sale had locked the Indians into Mount Hope peninsula, so Swansea became their only route out. On Sunday June 20th, 1675 , the tension between the two groups came to a bloody battle for land. Some of Philip's men raided Swansea, entering houses, helping themselves to food, cattle, etc. Most of the town was at church. It was not safe to remain, so the women and children in Swansea went south to Newport where Rev. John Clarke porvided shelter for them. They remained there several months until after the death of King Philip in 16 76.
After Eldad's death, Mehitable married Timothy Brooks
