Georg and Suzanne Hutfless Wurm settled on a quarter of land
northeast of Herndon. Homestead certificate no 5765 (1887) was filed at
the land office in Oberlin for the northeast quarter of Section 34,
Township 1, South Range 31, W36PM, in Rawlins County. Georg signed an
indenture September 12, 1887, and on November 5, 1887 transfered his
land over to his son Andreas (Andrew) Wurm for $1,600. (b. 1861, Gols:
d. 1933, Herndon; m. Anna Rumpeltes, 1886. Matthias purchased this land
from Andreas in February, 1891. He lived there until 1922 when he sold
it to John Goltl. Johan and Elizabeth Wurm, Matthias' parents,
homesteded on a quarter section in 7-1-30, Logan Township, Decatur
County. A part of their land was given as a cemetery for St. John's
Lutheran Church. Johan was the first to be buried there in 1885. Georg
and Susanna are also buried there.

Georg Wurm was born around 1830 in Gols, Austria. He died October 24,
1898, at 5:20 AM in Rawlins County, Kansas. He is buried beside his
wife, Susanna, in the old cemetery on the Decatur-Rawlins county line,
near the Wendelin Homestead. No further statistics are available on
Georg Wurm as wooden crosses with just the names were placed on the
graves instead of tombstones. Then, while weeds were burned at the
cemetery, most of the wooden crosses were destroyed by fire. Now it is
virtually impossible to identify the graves in the old cemetery. Also,
the church records of the old Lutheran church near Herndon have been
lost.
Georg Wurm was married to Susanna Hutfles around 1850, in Gols,
Austria. Susanna was born and raised in Gols, but no vital statistics
are available on her. We do know Georg and Susanna were both born,
raised and spent much of their married life in Gols. They were evidently
baptized and confirmed in the the Lutheran faith in Gols.
In their later years Georg and Susanna Wurm lived with Andrew and his
wife Anna. The grandchildren recall Susanna died before Georg, but there
is no clear recollection of dates.
