- Comment: Darwin was an orphan. We find him living in a a poorhouse in Ontario
County, NY in 1838. He was indentured to George Snyder of Gorham, Ontario,
NY at the age of 9, his indenture ended when he was 21 years old. We do not
know who Darwin's parents are or why he ended up in the poorhouse or what
happened to the rest of his family. We would like to a family connection
that can help us figure out this mystery. He was the only Taylor living in
the poorhouse during his stay there. His city was listed as Manchester
which is in Ontario County.
