Taylor Haplogroup R1a
This page is about the Y chromosome haplogroup R1a. Its purpose is to explain
the genealogical and anthropological meanings of the determination. Also see
this page about both R1a and R1b.
If you are coming to this page directly, you may want to read first
about haplogroups in general; you
will probably need
the background.
As of this writing, Taylor Family Genes has 11 members in this haplogroup,
about 2% of the total membership.
- 5 are matched (grouped) into two genetic Taylor families based on similarity of their haplotypes.
- 6 are presently ungrouped; they have no genealogically significant matches within the project.
About this Group
Haplogroup R1a is believed to have originated 19 to 26 kya
among the northern and eastern Proto-Indo-European language speakers in Eurasia.
Its defining SNP is M420.
- Its parent is R1 (SNP: M173).
- Its children are subclades R1a1a1 to R1a1a8 (various SNPs).
- It is a sibling to R1b (SNP: M343).
It is most frequent today in eastern Europe and central Russia, with
significant presences in Scandinavia and Iceland.
Members of this haplogroup may want to consider joining the DNA project for
it. See

or one of those listed at

The following information is from
Wikipedia:
Haplogroup R1a is a major Y-chromosome haplogroup currently found at high frequencies in
most of Eastern Europe and parts of Central Europe and certain populations in Central and South Asia.
