Memories from 1924

I thought the alumni would enjoy some of the photo's from my father's Wellston High year book. Since his picture had been torn out (giving it to someone special I was told) I'm also sending you his senior picture.

Daddy graduated from Wellston in 1924. He also had twin sisters, Rosemary and Dorothy, and a brother named Bob who also graduated from Wellston.

After graduation Daddy went to work for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a chemist where he worked until the great depression hit. As so many others, Daddy lost his job during that time. President Roosevelt created a government program called the WPA (Works Progress Administration) where many men were able to get jobs. His job was laying cobble stones on the Mississippi River front.

Daddy worked there until sometime during the war when he was lucky to get a job at the American Brake Shoe Co. located in Wellston as a security guard.  Daddy also belonged to the Missouri National Guard. His brother, Bob retired from the Navy.

I found it very interesting seeing my dad had some of the same teachers as we did.

Miss Marr for music,
Mr Halter
Mr. Niebeck
and seeing Miss Griswald had been his principal!
