I remember skating there! That's a lonnnnng time ago! I
was envious of
those who could dance in their skates.
Thanks for the memories!

"Hi Bob" for some reason the name "Hodges" seems familiar re the
roller
rink, but my memory has many gaps and lapses (!!)..I'll try to get a
little more info...and I did have a picture of the birthday group
including me, you, Danina Puleo, Norma Jean Laux and Fred Gossom in
front of my home at 6247 Julian....have no idea where this is, but
will
give it a look...take care, J "
My neighbors were Fred Gossom, Virginia Gossom, Norma Jean Laux, and
up
the street a ways, Jack Crawford, I believe he was a year ahead of
us...of course, Danina lived a block away also, and down the block
lived
Levy Swindle and his brother and sister.
Hi Bob..I got ahold of the correct person at the library reference
room
and she confirmed that at 6310 Easton Ave., Hodges Brothers roller
rink
existed there.....I seem to remember that Hodges had another
'outdoor'
rink, with a roof, somewhere in Pine Lawn..at least there was
another
rink there, I know...still looking for the picture in front of 6247
Julian....I understand that block has several "Habitat for Humanity"
homes on it now, which is great....regards to your family. Jean

I have struggled with the web, but cannot find the "NAME" of the
Roller
Rink
In the Lindy Hall at Evergreen and Easton. This building is just
one
of my many uncompleted
"Old Days " projects.. Quite a place, built the same time as the
Casa
Loma and named for Lindbergh
and the Dance craze at Savoy Ballroom in Harlem Built as the "New
Lindy Ballroom". We just called it
The Lindy Hall. In the 1940s we danced a version of the Lindy hop
and
did not know it.
That birthday party at the roller rink, do you have photos of that
time?
They* *_*leased the space *for a time period _I have not
confirmed.. I
feel it was a very short time...

It was also rented for some events that Johnny Rion (Musician and
radio
personality) put on and broadcasts, but I have no details on that

I remember
going to Lindy Hall skating Friday nights but I can't remember ever dancing there.
I never was a very
good skater, being very lucky to be able to skate forward without falling! I envied
those who could do the trick skating and those who skated backwards. It was a
lot of fun, when Hodges moved to Pine Lawn we followed them out
there.
Remember the skate keys? I don't know how many of them I bought - I
always seem to lose 'em somehow.

We moved to Wellston during my 4th grade year, living on Kienlen
Ave. I attending Wellsmar school thru the 6th grade. Just down the
street from where we lived was one of our families favorite place to
go on a Saturday Night, Lindy Hall.
We
were into country music big time. The Grand old Opera stars were
always playing there. Going to the shows became a weekly family
adventure for our family. Once my sister Mary '56 and cousin,
Shirley Van Deusen won a jitter bug contest during the intermission.
They split the $10.00 grand prize money. After the show (1:00 am)
my family and I would walk east on Easton, down by the loop, to a
restaurant (I can't remember the name) to get a bowl of the most
delicious chili served with oyster crackers! Oh what fond memories
this has brought back especially since both of our parents are now
gone. Share your memories for Lindy Hall. Send to: My
