| Uploading via FTP
Drag-n-Drop This works with many browsers. I use
Internet Explorer, which does support FTP Drag-n-Drop.
If you have problems, make sure that your Internet Options are
set to allow FTP transfer. (In IE - Select Tools / Internet Options /
Advanced and turn on "Enable folder view for FTP sites") NOTE: If you are using AOL's web
accelerator (Top Speed), turn it off before trying to connect via ftp.
Accelerators work by preventing transfers of large files and if your site
includes some larger files (like many image files), it could prevent your
connection via ftp.
1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to
find where you saved your web. Re-size the window to one side of
the screen.

2. Open
your browser. Type
ftp://users.freepages.rootsweb.com/
in the address window and press Enter.

3. The
following window will appear. Type in your RootsWeb UserID and
password EXACTLY as sent to you in the "Welcome" letter and press "Log
On". (Remember it's case sensitive.)
 NOTE: If
your browser won't allow you to access that way, try inserting the
userID and password directly into the FTP address. Some browsers
will allow you to do it this way instead -
ftp://username:password@users.freepages.rootsweb.com/genealogy_html/
where you input your username and password
directly into the places indicated in the URL. 4. Your RootsWeb space will appear in the browser window.
Re-size the window to one side of the screen so that you can
view both the Windows Explorer and browser windows
side-by-side.

5. Pre-built into each FreePages space are the available
community folders. DO NOT delete these. In fact, do not
rename or move them either. Leave them completely as they are.
If you change or delete the basic community folders, you will have
problems accessing your account in the future. 6. In
the RootsWeb window, double-click on the community you want to publish
to (genealogy_html, family_html, misc_html, etc.). Once that folder is open, you can begin to drag and drop
files and folders from the Windows Explorer window into the RootsWeb
window. Your files will remain on your computer, but will be
copied onto RootsWeb. 7. When you've finished dragging
everything to RootsWeb, you're done. Congratulations! Your web
is published.
NOTE: This Drag-n-Drop method also works in reverse. If your
computer ever crashes and you lose the copy of your web on your
computer or a backup copy, you can drag-n-drop it FROM Rootsweb back TO your computer.
